Mail Exchange vs Kickbox

Kickbox is a well-known, simple pay-as-you-go verifier. Mail Exchange works the same way, refunds unknowns the same way, and costs 28-43% less.

Updated 2026-10-17

TL;DR

  • Price: Mail Exchange is 28% cheaper at 5K, 30% at 10K, 40% at 100K and 43% at 1M.
  • Terms: both refund unknown results and both sell pay-as-you-go credits. Mail Exchange adds a 3-day free trial (Kickbox gives 100 free credits), free duplicates, credits that never expire, and an optional monthly plan at 15% off.
  • Pick Kickbox if you need its SOC 2 compliance or its native HubSpot, Mailchimp or Salesforce integrations today. Pick Mail Exchange if you clean lead lists by CSV and want the lower bill.

Pricing (pay as you go)

Kickbox has no subscription. You buy a credit pack, and one credit verifies one address. Mail Exchange works the same way, so this is a like-for-like comparison.

EmailsKickboxMail ExchangeYou save
5,000$40$29$11 (28%)
10,000$70$49$21 (30%)
100,000$500$299$201 (40%)
1,000,000$2,999$1,699$1,300 (43%)

Kickbox prices from kickbox.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-17, without promotional codes. Kickbox cut its prices in mid-2026 (10K went from $80 to $70 and 100K from $800 to $500, per PricingSaaS), and the table uses the new prices.

Per email, that's $0.008 at Kickbox against $0.0058 at Mail Exchange for a 5,000 list, and $0.005 against $0.0030 at 100,000. The gap grows with volume. If you verify every month, Mail Exchange's monthly plan takes another 15% off. Kickbox doesn't offer one.

Where Kickbox is the better fit

Kickbox says over 150,000 senders use it, and it's a solid product. It is SOC 2 and GDPR compliant, which matters if your security team reviews every vendor that touches a customer list. And if you want verification running inside HubSpot or Salesforce without touching a CSV, Kickbox's native integrations do that today. Mail Exchange's connectors are still on the roadmap.

Where Mail Exchange is the better fit

Most cold emailers export leads from Apollo or a scraper, clean them, and import them into Instantly or Smartlead. That's a CSV job, and for a CSV job you're paying for the verification, nothing else. Mail Exchange runs the same six checks (syntax, DNS and MX, risk lists, an SMTP mailbox check, a catch-all test and a verdict) without sending an email, and charges less at every volume.

Results come back as deliverable, risky, undeliverable or unknown. Risky is split into catch-all, role and disposable, so you can decide what to do with catch-alls instead of getting one lumped-together "risky" flag. Our catch-all guide explains how to handle them in a cold campaign.

Switching from Kickbox

There's nothing to migrate. Export your list as CSV, upload it to Mail Exchange, and filter on the result column the way you do now. Use up any Kickbox credits you already paid for first. Start with the free trial to compare results on a sample of your own list.

Common questions

Is Kickbox more accurate? No verifier gets a definite answer from every mail server, and accuracy claims are hard to compare. The fair test is your own data: run the same 25-address sample through both and compare how many come back deliverable, risky and unknown. Our free email checker handles single addresses.

Does Mail Exchange send an email to check an address? Mail Exchange never sends a message. It talks to the mail server and stops before any email content is sent.

What about catch-all domains? A catch-all server accepts every address, so no verifier can confirm the mailbox. Mail Exchange labels these separately so you can choose to skip them, send to a small test batch, or send only to your best-fit leads.
